A Little Bit About Our Comprehensive Counseling Program
Mission Statement
The mission of the Zundy Elementary School Counseling program will extend a comprehensive developmental counseling program that includes academic success, and social-emotional growth and encourages career exploration for application. Prepare students to function in a society with diverse understanding, compassion for others, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic world.
Vision Statement
The Zundy School counseling program will provide a positive, compassionate, encouraging environment that facilitates the knowledge, skills, and attitudes appropriate in developing the whole child; creating responsible, productive lifelong learners.
What is a Comprehensive Counseling Program?
To serve all students in a manner that includes academic, social-emotional, and college and career readiness, it is important to implement a comprehensive model to support the school counselor's role. The comprehensive counseling program involves utilizing existing resources, the school counselor, the teachers, the administrative team, and all stakeholders to recognize the needs of the whole student to develop educated, well-adapted, productive students.
What is the Counselor Role and Philosophy Statement?
The role of the school counselor involves the responsibility of helping all students through the systemic delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors must reach each student through compassion, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and acceptance. Through these attitudes, the school counselor will systemically deliver the comprehensive developmental school counseling program to address academic and behavioral needs. As a school counselor implementing The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counselors, it is my philosophy that "To have the perspective of where a student is developmentally with regard to learning, socializing, and behaving is to have a glimpse into that individual student’s capability" (TEA, 2018).
Our Current Program
Our Current program is working on improving and including the model provided within the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. As a new school counselor at the Zundy campus, I have the unique ability to implement a program within my role which includes my service in the areas of Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support. All of which will address the needs of the students, staff, and additional stakeholders here at Zundy Elementary.
